Digital Reproduction Management by Gigglewick Gallery

Introduction

Gigglewick Gallery is an art gallery established in the Royal Arcade, Worthing. One of the services we provide to our artists is Digital Reproduction Management.  This entails organising (if required) the scanning of original art; storing the images; advising and arranging printing; framing; packaging; invoicing; delivery and hanging. We also manage limited edition runs as set by the artist.

What is a Reproduction?

An artwork reproduction is a digital copy of an original piece of artwork. The purpose of reproductions is to allow more people to own and appreciate a piece of art that may be to expensive, big or delicate in it's original form.

Types of Reproductions

Mounted Prints

A reproduction print is loosely attached to an acid free card backing and surrounded with a white or cream mount. This process ensures that the print remains flat and stable. The customer is then to free to choose the framing and glazing to suit the artworks ultimate location.

Price depends on the size of the print and whether it is a limited edition. Typical prices at Gigglewick Gallery range from £25 to £100.

Framed Prints

In a framed print the artwork is encased within a frame, typically white or black hardwood, and glazed under glass or museum quality Clarity+ perspex. The frame not only adds a protective barrier nut also enhances the artwork's presentation.

Price depends on the size of the print, whether it is limited edition, the quality of the mount and the material, size and style of the frame material. Typical prices at Gigglewick Gallery range from £50 to £600.

Canvas Prints

A canvas print is an image printed from an industrial inkjet printer onto canvas, which is then stretched onto a wooden frame. You can choose between framed or unframed options. This option is usually chosen by customers looking to identify with an acrylic or oil original.

Price depends on size and framing and ranges from £200 to £750 at Gigglewick Gallery.

Metal Prints

A metal print is an image printed directly onto a thin sheet of aluminium or onto vinyl affixed to aluminium. There is a wide range of choices including metal prints under acrylic glass, matt or gloss.

The process infuses dyes into a specially coated aluminium surface using heat and pressure resulting in a vibrant, high-definition print with remarkable colour depth and detail. These prints are incredibly durable, resistant to scratches, fading and moisture, making then ideal for various environments.

The essential ingredient in this type of artwork is the quality of the image. Typically, the original artwork is commercially scanned producing images of 300dpi and 50-100mb. In these situations quality metal prints can be produced from 15 sq cm up to 2m by 1m.

Prices range from £100 to £1500.

Special Locations

Typically canvas and paper based prints should not be placed in situations where they can be subjected to excess moisture or heat. In bathrooms we would only recommend a Direct Print on Aluminium DiBond or HD Print on Metal. It is not recommended to hang framed art above a radiator where it will be subject to wide variations in heat and humidity. These variations can impact the condition of the frame as well as the print.

HD Print on Metal reproductions are sealed and can be placed in sheltered outdoor conditions.
